Young Midwife Leader alumni joins the ICM’s Staff
We are thrilled to announce Neha Mankani, global health practitioner and midwife based in Pakistan, as the Lead for ICM's Midwives Association Capacity Assessment and Strengthening Project.
With a wealth of experience in SRHR, maternal and neonatal health, Neha has pioneered impactful work in clinical practice, programming, and midwifery advocacy.
She was honored with the Heroines of Health Award in 2021 for her commitment to gender and health equity, and in 2023, the US Embassy recognised her with the Woman of Courage Award for her work on the emergency response during the catastrophic floods in Pakistan.
Neha's focus on low-resourced settings, crisis reproductive health, and climate-affected communities has earned her a reputation as a true champion.
As an alumnus of ICM’s Young Midwife Leaders Programme, Neha becomes the second YML to join ICM’s staff.

Watch out for monthly Regional Professional Committee (RPCs) updates!
The ICM Regional Professional Committees (RPCs) were set up in 2022 to support the ICM to strengthen the midwifery profession regionally and globally, in alignment the ICM Professional Framework.
There are six RPCs, one in each ICM region. Each RPC has nine members: two midwife educators, two midwife regulators, two midwife researchers, two practicing midwives, and one emerging midwife leader. One member of the Head Office Regional Team will also support each RPC.
As operational committees, the RPCs will help build positive working relationships and networks within regions supported by our Regional Approach, uniting countries and regions using intelligence-led data to strengthen and direct the ICM's advocacy plans to meet the ICM Strategic Priorities.

Transforming Pregnancy Loss Care: A Vision for Global Bereavement Support Standards
The Independent Pregnancy Loss Review was commissioned by and reports to the Department of Health and Social Care for England (UK). It provides a vision for improving the care of families who experience pregnancy loss before 24 weeks, describing a system for providing sensitive, flexible, equitable, compassionate, accessible, personalised care to bereaved families, regardless of gestation.
The review refers to the support that parents should receive including perinatal mental health and follow-up. The report also states that, on request, a Baby Loss Certificate should be provided by the Government. This should be provided for recent and historic losses.
Watch out for our next newsletter that will include a contribution from the report’s authors about their aspiration for all women and gender diverse people globally to have this standard of bereavement support.
